Aperitifs, Digestives, and Vermouths
Aperitifs is an alcoholic drink usually enjoyed as an appetizer before a large meal. It is often served with something small to eat, like olives or crackers.
Digestives: liquids or cordials often made with herbs and said to aid digestion. Usually drunk at the end of a meal.
Vermouth is a liquor made from wine, with a number of different herbs added for flavor. It is known as an aromatized liquor, and some people refer to it as a fortified wine - although strictly speaking, a fortified wine usually has alcohol added to it to increase its potency, while vermouth uses the alcohol for the flavor it imparts. |
